Al-Shifa Eye Trust is a remarkable non-governmental, non-political, and charitable organization dedicated to preventing and controlling blindness. Established in 1985 by the late Lt. Gen Jehandad Khan, it has grown into a substantial institution through unwavering dedication and teamwork. Al-Shifa Eye Trust operates state-of-the-art eye hospitals in Rawalpindi, Sukkur, Kohat, Muzaffarabad, and Chakwal. These hospitals provide comprehensive eye care services, including complex surgeries and treatments. Al-Shifa focuses on community outreach, raising awareness, and preventive measures to combat blindness. The trust emphasizes training and developing skilled professionals in ophthalmology. Al-Shifa supports basic and applied research to advance eye care practices. The trust strives to create accessible and cost-effective eye care solutions. Currently, Al-Shifa Eye Trust handles over 100,000 outpatient visits per month, and approximately 500 children also seen daily in the children’s outpatient department. Remarkably, 80% of patients receive free treatment, and even the subsidized fees barely cover operational costs. The hospitals are equipped with modern machinery and equipment to enhance patient care. In summary, Al-Shifa Trust’s vision is to be recognized as a premier eye care hospital, providing primary, secondary, and tertiary services while continually improving quality and expanding outreach to underprivileged communities across Pakistan.
