AKAB (Azad Kashmir Association of the Blind)

AKAB is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, by Professor Ilyas Ayoub, a visually impaired educator. Its mission is to empower blind and visually impaired individuals through education, training, and community support. It offers free education, accommodation, food, uniforms, and transport to students. Here, Uses Braille and assistive technologies like JAWS (Job Access with Speech) to facilitate learning. It also provides access to libraries, prayer spaces, and recreational facilities. Students of AKAB have excelled in academics and sports, winning trophies in cricket and other competitions. AKAB has helped over 150 students complete their matriculation and continues to expand its reach. It promotes inclusivity and aims to ensure that blindness is not a barrier to success.

It is a dream that encompasses entire humanity within its scope. A dream that doesn’t discriminate between color, caste, creed, nationality, status or any other identity marker.
