The Aziz Jehan Begum Trust and Institute for the Blind is a remarkable organization dedicated to empowering individuals with visual impairment. Established in 1989 by Ms. Salma Kishwar Jan, the trust honors the memory of her mother, Aziz Jehan Begum. Aziz Jehan Begum herself suffered from serious visual impairment due to “Retinitis Pigmentosa” and experienced total loss of sight in her last four years of life.
Madam Ursula Jeddy sahiba is the CEO of the Institute. It launched in September 1996, the Aziz Jehan Begum Institute is the trust’s foremost project. Located in Noorabad, Lahore, the institute provides a positive learning environment for visually impaired students. It places great emphasis on academics, recognizing that education is crucial for creating opportunities and dignified lives for those who cannot see. Notably, the institute is the only English medium institute in Pakistan equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and well-trained teachers.
Mr. Kamran Afzal who is the Chairman and Founder Member of Aziz Jahan Begum Trust. The trust’s motto is “Knowledge, Opportunity, and Equality. The mission is to empower visually impaired individuals to thrive as highly productive and successful citizens, achieving physical and financial independence. They believe that loss of sight does not equate to loss of ability, talent, or courage. Instead, they harness the innate potential of their students. The trust actively leverages innovation, technology, and research to improve their programs and explore new opportunities. They advocate for the advancement and equity of visually impaired individuals in both public and private sectors. the Aziz Jehan Begum Institute focuses on differentiated learning to ensure that visually impaired students thrive in a sighted world.
It is a dream that encompasses entire humanity within its scope. A dream that doesn’t discriminate between color, caste, creed, nationality, status or any other identity marker.
