“Meethi Zindagi,” an organization founded in 2017 and operational since 2018, aims to support children and young people living with diabetes, particularly type 1. Dr. Sana Ajmal, who has type 1 diabetes herself, initiated the organization to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has access to necessary medical care and support.
Dr. Sana was diagnosed with diabetes at 15 and manages her condition by taking insulin five times a day and monitoring her sugar levels similarly. Despite her condition, she has achieved significant milestones in life, including completing her PhD, raising a family, and maintaining a fulfilling social life.
Starting with a single child in need of insulin support, “Meethi Zindagi” has grown to assist over 1,000 children from various regions in Pakistan. The organization connects needy children with a network of doctors and hospitals, providing essential medicine and support.
Dr. Sana emphasizes that type 1 diabetes is not linked to lifestyle choices or poor eating habits; rather, it is a medical condition that requires constant management and access to care. “Meethi Zindagi” seeks to create awareness and advocate for children who require support, reflecting a positive perspective on living with diabetes. The name itself, suggested by Dr. Sana’s husband, conveys the message that life can be sweet even for those with diabetes. The organization champions a hopeful narrative, highlighting successful individuals with diabetes.
